Christmas Cookie List

November 28, 2012

Christmas cookie baking starts this weekend so I worked on my list of cookies to bake this evening.  I wanted to cut down my cookie list from previous years.  I have a lot less people to bake for now that I’m not working (no more massive trays of cookies to bring into the office). Going through a couple new cookie cookbooks this evening, I realized that this year will still be a bit of a baking frenzy.  I’m keeping family and friend favorites and adding some new, yet simple cookie recipes to the mix.

My list is still long, although I’ll probably make smaller batches of everything but favorites.  My husband wanted butter cookies, but since I don’t like my cookie press I was going to buy a better one.  The Butter Twist recipe I found in Martha Stewart’s Cookies cookbook eliminates the need for a cookie press while still creating a cookie with a sweet, buttery flavor.

I’m also adding Coconut Macaroons.  The recipe looks easy enough and I know a few family members will appreciate them.  Another new addition is the Sour Cream Cookies.  The recipe kind of reminds me of a ricotta cookie, but with sour cream used instead.  We always seem to have sour cream in the house so this will be a tasty way to use it up!

What’s nice about not working this year is not having to rush through my evenings to get all of my holiday baking done!  I can take my time during the day and still do some baking during the weekend if I choose.  It should be a lot less stressful this year.

Here’s what I’ll be baking this year:

  • Snickerdoodles
  • Butter twists
  • Sour cream cookies
  • Coconut macaroons
  • Italian sesame cookies
  • Cran-pistachio cookies
  • Chocolate chip cookies
  • Russian tea cakes
  • White chocolate Chex bark
  • Caramels (maybe)

What’s on  your holiday baking list?
