With the hot summer heat moving in, I think we all know how important it is to stay hydrated. I've been drinking a ton of herbal tea lately. It's refreshing, tastes a whole lot better than straight water, and it's not dehydrating like other tea varieties.
On those days when it's been really hot, I'll fill my giant Yeti cup with cold brew herbal tea in the morning and end up filling it up again by the afternoon.
I've been going through tea bags like crazy, drinking my tea over ice or with sparkling water. But I've been trying to figure out different ways to enjoy herbal tea throughout the summer. One idea came to mind - make a mocktail!
How to Cold Brew Tea Bags
I've been buying tea bags made specifically for cold brewing ice tea. Bigelow Tea and Celestial Seasonings both make some really delicious herbal tea blends. My new favorite is Celestial Seasoning's Red, White, and Blueberry Cold Brew Iced Tea. It's a berry flavored hibiscus blend that I thought would work really well in a Cosmopolitan mocktail.
These cold brew ice tea bags are easy to make. Just steep them in cold water for at least 5 minutes and you have a delicious glass of iced tea! If you have regular hibiscus tea bags, steep a tea bag in 8 oz. of water overnight, then remove the tea bag and continue with the recipe.
Cosmopolitan Iced Tea Mocktail
Obviously Cosmos became a popular drink after Sex and the City. But Cosmopolitans are a sweet, fruity, and kind of tangy cocktail that's perfect for summer! It's also a super easy drink to turn into a mocktail. All you need is a hibiscus based tea, cranberry juice, orange juice, and lime juice!
So the first thing we're going to do is make our tea. Add the tea bag and water to a glass (or a Mason jar) and steep the tea for at least 5 minutes. The longer the tea steeps, the more flavorful it'll be. Then, remove the tea bag.
Now we're going to grab a cocktail shaker and fill it with ice. Add the tea, cranberry juice, orange juice, and lime juice.
Shake everything up. Then, pour the mocktail into a glass, garnish with a slice of lime and enjoy!
