DIY Christmas Tea Tree

I don’t know about you, but each day we inch closer to Thanksgiving, I find myself in disbelief that the calendar has somehow circled back around again to the holiday season.  These past few weeks, I have been making my lists and checking them twice, working on whittling down my Christmas shopping list, stocking up on wrapping supplies, and brainstorming personalized ideas for homemade gifts.  Every year for Christmas, I love including homemade gifts with store bought ones.  Whether it’s a handmade ornament or a tin of cookies, I like to put a homemade touch on the holidays.

While I was brainstorming homemade gifts this year, I was thinking about the tea lovers in my family – there are a few.  Who doesn’t love to sit down on a cold, Winter night with a nice cup of tea in their favorite mug?  So instead of merely gifting a person a box of tea or a new mug, I decided to work on a unique way to present tea in a festive way by making a DIY Christmas Tea Tree.  This project is so easy to make!  The recipient will love the festive touch and thought you put into this gift.

DIY Christmas Tea Tree SUPPLIES

  • Styrofoam cone
  • Box of tea
  • Headpins
  • Decorative Christmas pick
  • Christmas mug
  • Don Victor Honey

  1. Starting from the bottom of the Styrofoam cone, pin the teabags around the base of the cone.
  2. Work your way up the cone until it’s completely covered.  You may need to overlap teabags.
  3. Top your Styrofoam cone with a decorative Christmas pick by carefully pushing pick into the top of the cone.
  4. If using unsealed teabags (as pictured), wrap the tree in a clear plastic baggie to keep tea fresh.
  5. Gift tea tree with a holiday mug and jar of honey.

I was able to find all of the supplies I needed on a recent trip to Walmart.  I spotted the Don Victor honey jar in the Hispanic aisle while I was grabbing a bottle of hot sauce.  The honeycomb inside makes the jar look so unique and pretty!  I ended up buying two jars – one for me and another to gift!

I was telling my dad about this honey and he told me how much he used to love eating honey with the honeycomb inside as a kid.  I had no idea, but honeycomb can actually be eaten!  You can mash the honeycomb and use it as a spread, serve it on a cheese plate with crackers, or merely set out the jar during dessert and tea. Kind of seems perfect for the upcoming holiday season, doesn’t it?

This DIY tea tree can be gifted in so many ways!  Make homemade tea cookies and give a tin along with the tea. Have a tea room nearby?  Consider a gift certificate for tea for two.  Include it in a snow day basket filled with comfy slippers, a good book or magazines, and other items.  Just don’t forget the honey!
