Cinnamon ornaments are one of those things that have been on my holiday to-do list for years and I've never gotten around to making them.  It's probably because the last time I attempted to make them, they turned out to be a big, crumbly mess.

Considering that I am making out like a boss on my holiday to-do list this year, I took a little time over the weekend to try making cinnamon ornaments again.  I used a no-cook recipe that was so easy to make!  I might even say it's fool proof.

This recipe made over a dozen cinnamon ornaments. Use Christmas cookie cutters or simple shapes like hearts and stars to cut them out of the dough.  I used a bamboo skewer to poke holes in my cinnamon cut-outs for hanging.

Then, I set them out on foil to let them dry overnight.  When they dried in the morning, I flipped them over and let them dry on the other side.  Once they were completely dry, I used baker's twine to hang them on the tree.

Let's mix up some dough! First, add the cinnamon, flour, and applesauce to a bowl and mix just until a dough forms.

Remove the dough from the bowl and place it onto a lightly floured surface.  Roll out the dough and use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.  Make sure to pierce a hole at the top of the ornament to add twine for hanging.

If desired, press pink peppercorns into the cut out dough.  Leave the ornaments out to dry on a flat surface for 24 hours or bake in the oven at 250 degrees for 2-3 hours, flipping halfway.

Once the ornaments are completely dry, string with twine and hang on the Christmas tree.

The evening after I made these, my husband asked what kind of cookies I had baked. I told him he didn't want to eat them. He asked why. So I said, "Unless you want a mouth full of cinnamon, salt and flour, you won't like these. They're cinnamon ornaments."

He did say they smelled good though! I suppose that's the trouble with having a husband who knows it's baking season!
