Now that I’m in full holiday mode, I can’t wait to share all of the DIY Christmas projects I’ve been brainstorming since, oh, Summer. Washi tape has become one of those DIY supplies that I can’t get enough of. Whether it’s updating my planner, taping up a letter, or adding it to a surface, I truly love how washi tape can add a fun touch to any project.  I have quite a stash!

So I was super excited to go through the pages of Amy Anderson’s book, Washi Tape Crafts: 110 Ways to Decorate Just About Anything.  I’ve actually worked with Amy in the past and shared a Glitter “Snow” Frosted Mason Jar Lumanaries project on her website.  So I had no doubt this book would be as fun and creative as the projects she shares on her site.  The book also comes with 10 rolls of washi tape and tons of fun projects, so what’s not to love?

Considering the holiday season is soon to be officially underway, I decided to take inspiration from the Jolly Holiday Ornaments project in the book.  The book’s tutorial suggests decorating clear acrylic or glass ornaments with washi tape.  I have a lot of air dry clay on hand at the moment, so I decided to make my own ornament out of clay.

I also recently found an awesome sweater shaped cookie cutter at Target for 99 cents that I couldn’t pass up!  I immediately felt I needed to make an ugly Christmas sweater ornament out of it.  With some red and green washi tape, I made an adorable new ornament for our tree.

  1. Roll out clay and cut out a sweater shape with a cookie cutter or clay sculpting tools.  Make a hole at the top of the ornament for hanging.  Allow clay to dry and harden.
  2. Use washi tape to create your ugly Christmas sweater design.  On a craft surface, cut excess washi tape with a craft knife.
  3. Apply of coat of Mod Podge over washi tape to seal it.
  4. Allow Mod Podge to dry, add baker’s twine, and hang.

If you’re looking for an idea for the makers on your holiday shopping list, whether they’re beginner or Martha Stewart, I would definitely recommend this book.  I can’t wait to try some of the other projects in this book.  This book has definitely given me a lot of inspiration to create new projects with my growing washi tape stash!
