Personally welcome the Easter season with this easy DIY Easter Chalkboard Door Decor project!

I am a longtime fan of the chalkboard trend and therefore I constantly find myself making chalkboard projects for the house and as decorations.  When I thought about the Easter decorations that I wanted to make this year, I decided to include an Easter-themed chalkboard.  This chalkboard can either be hung on the door as a welcome or propped up as a decoration in the house.

While making this project, I realized that my favorite colors move in phases.  I guess, for me, it’s hard to pick just one.  But lately, I find myself gravitating towards anything that’s purple.  So that was my color of choice for this chalkboard!

I had even more fun making this project because I was able to take it outside.  We’ve been having quite the spring preview in New Jersey this week!  So I took Hunter outside and set up a spot in the grass to paint.  It was so warm that the paint dried in no time!  I was reminded of how much I love working outside in the spring and summer!

  1. Paint the unfinished wood door square in purple acrylic paint.  Allow to dry and continue with another coat, if necessary.
  2. Then, paint a coat of chalkboard coating over the purple painted surface.  Allow chalkboard coating to dry completely.  Follow with another coat.
  3. Paint the 4 small wood ovals like Easter eggs using paint markers.  Allow paint to dry.
  4. Glue the ovals onto each corner of the wood square using super glue.
  5. String ribbon through the holes of the unfinished wood square for hanging.
  6. Activate the chalkboard surface by rubbing chalk over the wood square.  Wipe the chalk off with a paper towel.
  7. Write an Easter message on your chalkboard and display!

I decided to paint only one side of the chalkboard, but you can do both sides, if you like.  I used a ruler to create stripes on my Easter eggs.  That was easier than trying to freehand chevron or polka dots (believe me – I tried and it didn’t go well).  The paint markers made it super easy to color my eggs, but acrylic paint and a small brush could also be used.

I haven’t decided whether I want to hang my chalkboard yet or display it somewhere in the house.  All I know is that it was another fun chalkboard project to make and I can’t wait to write all sorts of Easter messages on it!
