We're in the middle of a heatwave with feels like temps reaching over 100 degrees.  We've traded days in the sun for days spent inside with the air conditioner blasting.  Just letting the dog outside feels like a chore during these hot and humid days!  The air is thick and the heat is intense.  It's not only dangerous for people, but our pets, too.

But even summer days outside of a heatwave can be dangerous for your pet.  It's important to keep your dog safe and cool during the summer.  Hunter likes to stay outside with us a lot, so we've come up with some fun ways to keep him happy and cool.

How to Keep Your Dog Cool During the Summer

There are a whole bunch of ways you can still enjoy the summer while keeping your dog cool.  It's definitely better to keep them inside during heatwaves to avoid heat stroke and other problems.  You should take your dog for a walk in the morning or in the evening when the temps have gone down and the pavement is cooler (if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws).

I've made it a habit to spray Hunter with the hose in the morning while I'm outside watering my plants.  He loves chasing the hose water and is always up for a cool treat like ice cubes or frozen berries!  We also have a kiddie pool for him to play around in that doubles as his outdoor bathtub when it's time for him to get cleaned up.

If your dog loves being outside with you during the summer, these items will help them stay happy, hydrated, and cool!
