How to Create a Monogram Wall

My sister is in the middle of redoing her bedroom.  Her color scheme is a pretty coral color, black, white, and gold.  So a couple weeks ago, while I was over the house, she asked me to help her complete a monogram wall she was building.  She had purchased a couple Ks from the store.  I told her I’d make her the rest.  What are crafty, big sisters for, after all?

That afternoon, I hopped on my Darby Smart account and we went shopping for supplies to finish my sister’s monogram wall.  We decided on a striped canvas with a gold K in the middle inspired by this Darby Smart project.  Then, I made a lace stenciled K spray painted in gold and another K covered in gold leaf.  Basically, I just love gold and if I can cover something in gold, I will.  That King Midas was on to something!

All three of these projects were finished in one afternoon while I was hanging outside in the sun.  So easy!  While my sister was at work and I was visiting with my dad, I finished hanging her monogram wall.  The best part was showing her the wall when she got home.  My sister loved her wall!  The lace stenciled K is her favorite.

  • Foam brushes (2)
  1. Spray paint the wooden letter completely in white.  Allow paint to dry.
  2. Apply a coat of Mod Podge to one side of the letter.
  3. Working carefully, apply a sheet of gold leaf.  Allow Mod Podge to dry.
  4. Using a foam brush, gently brush away the gold leaf.
  5. Apply another coat of Mod Podge to seal the gold leaf.
  6. Allow Mod Podge to dry.  Then, display your letter.

A monogram wall gives a room a personal touch.  If you want to build your own monogram wall, make or purchase letters in different sizes, colors, and patterns.  Hang a larger focal piece first in the middle of the wall.  Then, scatter other letters around that focal point to cover the wall.
