Last week, I made a conscious effort to revamp the way we eat. The Winter months can totally throw us off track. Instead of making healthier choices, we often opt for meals and snacks that are warming, but heavy, and - worst of all - processed and pumped with ingredients we can't pronounce!
Now that Spring is here and the weather continues to warm up, my appetite for heavier meals and snacks starts to wind down. In fact, I've been planning weekly visits to the local farmer's market to ensure we're eating our veggies with every meal! These trips save us a ton of money, the quality is better, and we're supporting local farmers.
However, all of those cheap, gorgeous fruits and vegetables are often so tempting that I end up carting home way more than I need. That's where smoothies come in. I'm not a person who can drink smoothies all year 'round, so I look forward to this time of year when I can use fresh ingredients to create a delicious, filling, and nutritious smoothie.
I recently went to Walmart and bought myself an Oster® Blend-N-Go® MyBlend®. I cannot tell you how much I love this blender! Everything gets blended up in a personal-sized bottle, so when you're finished making your smoothie, you can just grab it and go! It's perfect for busy mornings or when I'm just heading out to the park!
While I was in Walmart, I also picked up Jif Peanut Powder since it has 85% less fat than regular peanut butter. I've been stocking my fridge with lots and lots of yogurt. So I bought a big container of Dannon (Vanilla) Oikos Triple Zero Greek Nonfat Yogurt to use in smoothies and also top with fresh fruit as a snack. Greek yogurt is my FAVORITE! It's thick, creamy, and is a great protein snack!
As I recently prepared a bunch of fruit for the freezer, I started thinking about smoothie flavor combinations to make other than my usually berry smoothies. So I thought I would take a not-so-good-for-you treat and turn it into a better-for-you smoothie.
We all know that the King of Rock and Roll loved his fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. The sandwich is made with mashed banana, bacon, and peanut butter, then fried in a whole lot of butter, mama! I'm not gonna lie - that does sound pretty awesome!
However, we're making better choices and that sandwich just doesn't make the cut. So I decided to make a Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie. I can promise that this is the King of smoothies! And why wouldn't it be? It's inspired by the King of Rock and Roll!
