Every year for Christmas, I like to make a handmade gift to include with my store bought ones. I always make trays or tins of cookies and usually some kind of handmade ornament as well. While my container of clear plastic ornaments are always a good go-to for creating personalized ornaments, I wanted to do something different and unique this year.
While I was scrolling through Facebook, I found a video tutorial for wax crafts including beautiful wax sachets. Wax sachets (also called wax tablets) are made with soy wax and natural elements like essential oil and dried florals. They can be placed in a room or hung with twine to freshen the air with natural fragrance.
Although the wax sachets aren't exactly ornaments, they would look pretty hung up on a Christmas tree or worked into your holiday decor. Just make sure to keep them away from any extra warm places so they won't melt or change shape!
Scented Christmas Wax Sachets
These Scented Christmas Wax Sachets are made with soy wax, a blend of essential oils, dried florals (in Christmas colors), and other natural elements like dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, mini pinecones, and pink peppercorns. Just melt, decorate, set, and gift!
The first step in making these wax sachets is melting the wax. I used a wax melting pot set in a saucepan with water to melt the wax over medium heat. You'll want to stir the wax pretty frequently until it's completely melted.
Once the wax is melted, remove it from the heat and stir in the essential oil. I used a blend of orange, eucalyptus, and cinnamon.
Next, carefully pour the wax into the silicone mold. Make sure to leave some space at the top so the wax doesn't overflow when you place all of the natural decorations into the mold.
Using tweezers, or carefully using your hands, start adding the natural elements into the wax. Once the wax sachets are fully decorated, allow them to harden for at least 3 hours.
Once the wax sachets have hardened, carefully pop them out of the molds and add twine for hanging. If desired, place them in small cellophane or organza bags for gifting.
SUPPLIES
- Silicone wax molds
- 1/2 pound soy wax flakes
- Wax melting pot
- Pure essential oils
- Dried pressed flowers
- Cinnamon sticks
- Dried orange slices
- Mini pinecones
- Pink peppercorns
- Craft tweezers
- Natural jute twine
- Scissors
- Optional: small cellophane or organza bags
STEPS
- Place the wax flakes into the melting pitcher. Then, place the pitcher inside a saucepan filled with a little water and heat over medium heat.
- Stir continuously until the wax has melted and remove from the heat. Then, add essential oils to the melted wax and stir.
- Carefully pour the wax into the molds leaving a little room at the top to add your natural elements.
- Once the molds are filled, begin decorating the wax with the dried flowers, cinnamon sticks, orange slices, pinecones, and pink peppercorns.
- Allow the wax sachets to harden completely (about 3 hours). Then, remove from the mold and add twine for hanging.
- If desired, place in small cellophane or organza bags for gifting. Store in a cool, dry place if not using or gifting immediately.
This DIY project should make about 6-8 wax sachets depending on the amount of wax you use. They would make a beautiful, handmade gift that will fill the recipient's home with natural fragrance and pure beauty!
