How to Make Crushed Tomatoes

Have an overabundance of garden tomatoes? It only takes a few easy steps to make fresh homemade crushed tomatoes with your garden haul!

Ingredients

  • Fresh tomatoes
  • Water
  • Ice water

Instructions

  • Score an "x" onto the bottom of each tomato.
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully place tomatoes into the pot. Boil until skin starts to peel away.
  • When ready, place tomatoes into large bowl of ice water. Cool completely.
  • Peel the tomatoes and discard the skin. Place the tomatoes into a blender. Pulse until smooth.
  • Alternately, place tomatoes into a large bowl and use an immersion blender to blend tomatoes until smooth.
  • Pour sauce into freezer-safe jars or freezer bags. Keep in freezer up to three months.
