The tree is up and I’m so glad I decided to decorate it differently this year. I’m loving the nature-inspired theme I chose - animal ornaments mixed with orange slices, acorns, pine cones, popcorn garland, and even a few of the handmade mushroom ornaments from my Etsy shop. With all of those natural touches, I wanted to add a few more handmade pieces. That made me think back to these cute pine cone reindeer ornaments I made years ago.
I’m pretty sure I originally made these to top holiday gifts. But this year I decided to make a few to hang on our tree. They fit our natural, woodland vibe perfectly! These ornaments are super easy to make and totally adorable! All you need to make them is a craft pine cone (or a cinnamon-scented one for an extra special touch) plus a few simple supplies like pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and pom-poms.
I used my hot glue gun to create my reindeer ornaments. But if you want to make these kid-friendly, they could create the reindeer faces using Elmer's glue, or another kid-friendly craft glue. Then, add two googly eyes and a red pom-pom nose. Shape a pipe cleaner to create antlers and attach a loop of twine or ribbon to the back for hanging. I even broke off two pieces of pine cone to create ears.
DIY Pine Cone Reindeer Ornaments
I’m so glad I remembered this project because these ornaments are just too cute! And even if your tree isn’t nature-inspired or woodland-themed, these pine cone reindeer ornaments will add a festive touch - whether they're hanging on the tree or attached to the top of a gift. They come together in just minutes and make a simple, budget-friendly - and kid-friendly - holiday craft.
To start these ornaments, I heated up my hot glue gun and picked out a few pine cones (about 3 inches in size). Holding my pine cone so the top point faces out and the flat bottom is in the back, I glued a red pom-pom to the top point of the pine cone. Then, I added googly eyes to form the reindeer face.
Next, I took a gold pipe cleaner and bent it to make a v-shape. I crinkled each side of the pipe cleaner to make it look like antlers. Then, I glued it to the back of the pine cone so the antlers stuck out from the top.
If you want to make ears, you can carefully cut or break off two little pieces of pine cone and glue them onto the top. Last, glue a loop of twine, or ribbon, to the back of the pine cone for hanging.
Repeat with as many pine cones as you wish. Hang on your tree or include with holiday gifts!

I linked the original tutorial I added to YouTube back in 2018. I honestly don't even know what's been posted to that account, but today-me is happy I made a video for these reindeer ornaments. I hope you have fun making this adorable Christmas craft!
