If you've walked into a Michaels store recently, you might've noticed that dried flowers are taking over for spring. Personally, I love it and grabbed a couple things for our home. As someone who works with dried flowers to make simmer pot kits, fragrance sachets, and other items, this is a trend I can definitely get on board with! So I dug into my stash of dried flowers and decided to create some art for Valentine's Day.
This Valentine's Day artwork focuses on natural textures and a soft, minimal color palette - it's very boho chic. While the simple heart-shaped design is inspired by Valentine's Day, this art project can easily go beyond the holiday, making it a trendy addition to spring decor as well. It would even make a nice handmade gift for someone, or a cozy craft to create with a bunch of friends for Galentine's Day.
I started this art project with a light peach cardstock background cut to size to fit a frame. Then, I drew a simple heart design in pencil and heated my glue gun. While my glue gun was heating, I arranged my flowers around the heart design including adding some longer stems inside of the heart. Once I was happy with the design, I glued the flowers in place.
Easy Dried Flower Valentine's Day Art
There's no need for perfection here. Let the natural variation of each dried flower guide you as you create your heart design. Enjoy the process and allow the design to unfold naturally as you work. It's an easy Valentine's Day craft with a beautiful balance of color and texture. All it takes to create your art piece is a simple list of supplies and a few easy steps.
Choose the cardstock color you want to work with for your background. Peach, pink, white, red, or light purple would work beautifully for this project. If you intend to frame your art, use either scissors or a paper cutter to cut the cardstock to fit your frame.
Then, use a pencil to draw a simple heart shape onto the cardstock. It doesn't need to be perfectly symmetrical. We're going to let this design naturally flow the whole way through.
Choose the flowers you want to work with. I used a mix of dried calendula, yarrow, carnations, globe amaranth, chrysanthemums, purple myosotis, and eucalyptus for the outline of the heart. I chose to work with dried bunny tails and lavender for the inside of the heart.
Arrange the flowers around the pencil outline. Then, use a glue gun or other craft glue (like E6000) to glue the flowers in place.
Once the glue dries, you can give your artwork as a Valentine's Day gift, display it as is, or hang it in a frame (you might have to leave the glass out if you're not using pressed flowers).
