I think I can blame Valentine's Day for my recent craving for anything in that classic strawberry and chocolate flavor combo! But I have been over-indulging in the sweets lately (hello, Girl Scout cookie season!). So I wanted to cure my craving for chocolate strawberries in a healthier sort of way. That's how these little energy bites ended up being made.

I figured a sweet treat can't be all bad when it's made with oats, honey, freeze dried strawberries, and nuts. Of course, to get that chocolate craving out of the way, I used Nutella. It's not the healthiest ingredient in these energy bites, but I had a jar in the kitchen cabinet. Plus, it sure does the job to curb the desire for a decadent, chocolaty snack!

Health Benefits of Strawberry Nutella Energy Bites

Like most energy bite recipes, these are fairly simple to make and use ingredients you might already have on hand.

  • Oats: Provide a plant-based source of protein. They're also a good source of fiber, which helps you feel satisfied and fuller longer. And because they're also a complex carb, oats will help you maintain a steady flow of energy.
  • Nutella: Adds a deliciously rich and creamy chocolate and hazelnut flavor. It is a high caloric food that contains added sugar, so these energy bites should be consumed in moderation.
  • Freeze-dried strawberries: Add fruity flavor that compliments the Nutella so well. Strawberries are a good source of vitamins. And because these are freeze-dried, you won't end up with a soggy, wet texture in the energy bites.
  • Walnuts: Add crunch and are rich in healthy fats. They're full of antioxidants and provide a steady source of energy.
  • Honey: Is a natural sweetener and also full of antioxidants. It may also help to boost the immune system. To get the most nutritional results, it's best to use raw organic honey.

How to Make Strawberry Nutella Energy Bites

These energy bites are really simple to put together. Just mix the ingredients in a bowl and chill (this makes it easier to work with the mixture). Then, roll the mixture into balls and store in the fridge. You'll have a homemade batch of delicious energy bites ready to snack on and keep you fueled during the day!

To start these energy bites, add the oats, Nutella, honey, freeze-dried strawberries, vanilla, and walnuts to a large mixing bowl. Stir to combine. Then, place the bowl in the fridge and chill for about 30 minutes.

Using your hands, roll tablespoon-sized spoonfuls of the mixture into balls.

Place the energy bites into an airtight storage container and store in the fridge for up to a week. That's it! So easy to make and ridiculously good!
