I woke up at 5AM one morning with this idea in my head. For some reason, I was thinking about those white Halloween taper candles that "bleed." When you light the candle, it drips red wax giving it a creepy "bleeding" effect. I decided to turn these creepy candles into an easy Halloween treat using just a few simple ingredients - pretzel rods, white and red candy melts for the "candle wax," and a sliced almond on top for the "flickering flame."

These pretzels easily came together in just a few steps and make a spooky cute Halloween snack! I mean, there's really nothing better than a dipped pretzel. That salty-sweet combo is so good! You get the saltiness from the pretzel itself with the sweetness from the candy melts. The little almond slice on top, not only makes a great edible flame for these pretzel rods, but also gives the candy pretzels a nutty crunch.

The quantity you make is up to you, but I made 10 candy pretzel rods with this recipe. Have a sheet of wax paper ready to go since you'll be working quickly (the candy melts don't take long to solidify). Dip the pretzel rod into the white melt first and let it solidify. Then, add the red melts on top creating a dripping effect with a toothpick. While the red candy is still melted, add an almond slice on top. Then, set the pretzel rod on the wax paper to fully solidify before serving.

While I really love the "bleeding" candle effect for Halloween, you could also get extra spooky with black candy melts and red dripping candy melts. Or you could also do a monochrome, black-on-black dripping effect. Like these bleeding candle pretzel rods, melt the candy melts, dip once and then dip again to make the candy melts drip. Then, finish with a sliced almond.

To start these pretzel rods, melt the white candy melts as directed on the package, or in a small saucepan over low heat. Dip the pretzel rod about 3/4 or more of the way down and place it on wax paper to harden.

Tip: I found it easier to dip the pretzel rods into a jar filled with the melted candy melts rather than dipping it directly into the microwavable bowl.

Once the white candy melts have solidified, melt the red candy melts according to package, or in a small saucepan on low heat. Dip just the top of the pretzel rod and let it drip down the pretzel (or use a toothpick to help you create the dripping effect).

Right about dipping the pretzel into the red candy melts, add a sliced almond on top. Then, once again place the pretzel rod onto the wax paper to harden.

Serve this spooky Halloween pretzel rod treat for your Halloween party or scary movie marathon!

If you have leftover candy pretzel rods, store them in an airtight container in a single layer or layered with parchment paper. They'll do okay stored in room temperature since putting them in the fridge may cause them to sweat and lose their crunchy texture.
