I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait for the Winter Olympics to start! I’m not a huge fan of the summer games, but I am all about winter sports! Back in middle school, I was very into figure skating. I would watch the competitions all the time on TV. I basically wanted to be Oksana Baiul. There was only one problem – I had never ice skated in my life. Thanks to my husband, I finally got the chance to go ice skating. Let me just say that figure skaters make it look so easy on TV. I look like Bambi on ice.
So even though I’m pretty sure I’ll never ace a Triple Salchow (I mean, I still have to figure out how to glide with grace), I can still enjoy the pros during the Olympic games. Figure skating isn’t the only sport I love to watch! I’m into hockey, snowboarding, the luge, and even curling. Yes, curling! I’ve gotten very into watching curling the past few Winter Olympics. I just find it so interesting to watch!
Since I’m so excited for the games to start, I decided to create a couple of Olympic themed treats. If you’re hosting a watching party or just hanging out at home, these sweet treats will definitely get you hyped up for the games to begin!
I made edible Olympic torches to symbolize the beautiful opening ceremonies and traditions. These torches are made with Coldstone Creamery™ Caramel Crave Candy Cones that I found on Oriental Trading. I wrapped them with gold foil paper and cut flames out of construction paper.
I also made edible gold medals to cheer on Team USA! These medals are made out of Twizzlers and blue raspberry licorice candy. I used decorating frosting to hold everything together, including the chocolate coin “gold medal.”
SUPPLIES
To make the Olympic Torches:
- Coldstone Creamery™ Caramel Crave Candy Cones
- Gold foil paper
- Red construction paper
- Yellow construction paper
- Orange construction paper
- Scissors
- Tape
- Gluesticks
- Optional: Gold Trophies
To make the gold medals:
- Twizzlers
- Juicy Twists® Blue Raspberry Licorice Candy
- White decorating icing
- Chocolate coins
STEPS
To make the Olympic Torches:
- Wrap gold foil paper around a Coldstone Creamery™ Caramel Crave Candy Cone. Cut to fit and tape into place.
- Then, cut equal strips of red, yellow, and orange construction paper.
- Cut flame shapes out of the strips.
- Layer the paper flames on top of one another, leaving a little overhang between each color. Glue each color on top of one another.
- Wrap the paper flames around the top of the Coldstone Creamery™ Caramel Crave Candy Cone.
- Cut off any excess and glue into place.
- Allow glue to dry completely. Serve in gold trophies, if desired.
To make the gold medals:
- You’ll need two Twizzlers and two Juicy Twists® Blue Raspberry Licorice Candies for each medal. Unwrap each Twizzler if purchased wrapped. Cut, if necessary, to
- Pipe white decorating icing down the length of a Twizzler. Then, press a Juicy Twists® Blue Raspberry Licorice Candy onto the other side of the icing. Repeat with the other Twizzler and Juicy Twists® Blue Raspberry Licorice Candy.
- Position each red, white, and blue licorice “ribbon” to form a V-shape.
- Add a dot of decorating icing to the middle of the V and place a chocolate coin on top.
- Allow icing to harden and dry, then serve.

The Winter Olympics need to hurry up and begin before we eat all of our sweets! These edible torches and medals were so fun to make and easy, too! If you’re as excited as I am for the games to begin, these creative treats will make the Olympics even sweeter to watch this year!
