The vegetable gardening season is starting to wind down for us here in Jersey. But our pepper bushes are still growing at a steady pace. In fact, my husband and I both agree it's probably been our best year for peppers yet! I'm going to have a lot of work ahead of me - canning, freezing, and drying - since we have such a wide variety of peppers growing in the garden.

Lately, I've been kind of obsessed with any type of pepper I can snack on. Especially with cream cheese! It's such a good combo! So with Halloween just around the corner, I thought I'd play around with our abundance of peppers and create a spooky, and slightly spicy, snack (or appetizer) inspired by some of my favorite creatures of the night - vampires!

These are a seasoned cream cheese stuffed pepper snack rebranded as "vampire fangs" for the Halloween season. I decided to go with our sweet banana peppers to create this fang-tastic Halloween dish. But you could use any variety of small pepper - like mini bell peppers, heatless jalapeños, or even a hot banana pepper for a spicier twist!

Served chilled, these peppers make an excellent party dish for your Halloween festivities. If you're not a big fan of spicy food, you can omit the Sriracha from the dish. But I think it gives the cream cheese an excellent flavor and a fun, "bloody" touch to the peppers when they're ready to be served.

The first thing we need to do is prep our peppers. I grabbed some sweet banana peppers from the garden and washed them. Then, I split them in half lengthwise and removed the seeds.

Once the peppers were prepped, I made the filling. I mixed cream cheese, garlic chives, a bit of Sriracha (just enough to taste) and salt and pepper together in a bowl.

Then, I filled each pepper half with the cream cheese mixture, spreading the cream cheese mixture evenly inside each pepper.

Now, you can serve them just like that, but I decided to give them a little extra spooky touch by dipping the ends of the peppers into Sriracha sauce. This gives them that "bloody" fang look! Then, serve chilled and enjoy!

Serve this Halloween dish as an appetizer or snack. They're easy to whip up and so delicious. In my opinion, there's just the right amount of heat to them, too. The soft cream cheese mixture and the crunch of the peppers goes so well together! Store any leftovers in the fridge up to 3 or 4 days.
