DIY Metallic Tattooed Flower Pots

I love this time of year!  Everything begins to, once again, become lush and green.  I start bringing out pots from the basement to fill with all new plants.  The itch to have flowers and greenery has certainly shown up these past few weeks.  There are handing planters filled with Pansies in the front and backyard.  I filled two new pots with succulents and transplanted Jumping Johnnies that are randomly sprouting up in our front yard.

My itchy green thumb has made its way indoors, as well.  We already have our share of houseplants, but I recently added new plants to our living room and office.  Our office is one of my favorite rooms to add greenery.  It’s where I spend most of my days working on the blog.  I want to be surrounded by natural elements, elements that remind me of being outside when I can’t be.  So while I was recently going through some of our pots in the basement, I decided to give a couple small pots a trendy makeover.

DIY Metallic Tattooed Flower Pots

In the past year, crafting with temporary tattoos has become an easy way to take surfaces from drab to fab.   During this past Halloween season, I added metallic tattoos to a ceramic skull.  I loved the look so much that I decided to decorate my small flower pots with tattoos.  First, I spray painted the surface with a flat white paint. Once the paint dried, I planted some small succulents and added some marble chips.  Then, I added tattoos.

STEPS

  1. If flower pots aren’t already white, spray paint the outside of the pots.  You don’t have to worry about the inside too much since you’ll have plants in them.
  2. Add a small layer of marble nuggets to the bottom of each pot for drainage.
  3. Then, add potting mix into each pot.
  4. Plant a small succulent in each pot.  Add very little water to each plant (succulents don’t need much).  
  5. Top pots with marble nuggets.
  6. Cut out a metallic tattoo from the sheet and peel off backing.
  7. Position tattoo onto the pot and dampen with a paper towel.
  8. Keep moistening tattoo until it begins to slide off.
  9. If you’re keeping these pots outside, spray them with a coat of clear spray paint to protect the tattoos.
  10. Dry completely and display.
