I know a lot of people typically shop for electronics, appliances, and trendy toys during Black Friday.  This year, I shopped for fancy sprinkle mixes and Christmas ornaments.  Guys, I have a real problem.  I can't stop buying Christmas ornaments!  Maybe it's because every year I seem to change up the theme of our Christmas tree.  Or maybe it's because they're just so darn pretty and you can basically find an ornament for everything!

I've been decorating my own tree for about 11 years now.  I basically kicked my husband (then boyfriend) out of the decorating process because I had real goals in mind.  You know those Christmas trees in department stores that look so full and seem to have a perfect balance of ornaments, ribbons, and bows?  That's what I wanted for our tree!  Since we don't have kids and Hunter is completely uninterested in our tree, I've been able to try and make it a reality each year.

DIY Agate Stone and Tassel Christmas Ornament

While I was browsing for new ornaments to add to our collection, I came across a really pretty agate stone ornament set.  The ornaments were made with a pretty agate slice with a gold, painted edge.  At the bottom of the ornament, there was a tassel made of string.

I've been obsessed with using agate stones and geodes in DIYs over the years!  They're just so pretty and I love the natural element that they add to projects and home decor.  I had an orange-brown agate slice and some faux leather tassels left from previous projects.  So I got out my craft box and decided to make my own take on the ornament set I saw online.

This ornament was super simple to make.  It only took a few steps and I had it hanging on my tree in no time!  The best part was since I had every single item on hand already, it didn't cost me anything to make!

SUPPLIES

STEPS

  1. Paint the edge of the agate slice with gold leaf marker.  Allow the marker to dry completely.
  2. Once the marker has dried, heat your hot glue gun.  Add a jewelry bail to each end of the agate stone.
  3. Next, open a jump ring with the pliers.  Loop it onto a jewelry bail.  Then, loop a tassel onto the jump ring.  Use the pliers to close the ring.
  4. Finally, tie string to the other jewelry bail and hang on your Christmas tree.

Seriously though - this ornament took minutes to make! Grab a bunch of agates slices and tassels and whip up a bunch to hang on presents or bring them as a little hostess gift during holiday parties.  They'll add a little holiday glam anywhere you hang them and look especially pretty with Christmas tree lights shining through them!
