DIY Cement Heart Magnets

I was a little sad realizing that Christmas was ending, the New Year was coming, and I'd no longer have festive holiday projects to pump out.  That was until I was reminded that Valentine's Day is coming up next month!  The New Year has allowed me to make a few crafting goals for myself.  I want to continue to use up the supplies that I already have on hand (an ongoing goal from last year) and start using some of the mediums I've been afraid to use in my projects.

Last year, cement and concrete projects were really popular among makers.  Well, most makers.  I figured cement and concrete mixes would be really difficult to work with.  I even enlisted the help of my husband to create a stepping stone for our anniversary.  I honestly don't know what I was so scared about!  You basically just mix and pour!  So now that I know how simple it is to use cement in projects, I'm obsessed!

With Valentine's Day coming up, I decided to pull out my heart mold to make my first set of cement projects.  The little bit of cement mix I used made quite a few cement hearts, so I was able to get two projects out of them (you'll get to see how to make the other project next week).

These cement heart magnets are really easy to put together and look adorable hanging on the fridge or any other magnetic surface!  They would make a cute Galentine's gift for the girl boss you know, a co-worker, your mom, or anyone else who seems to constantly hang lists, memos, and other things with magnets.

STEPS

  1. Follow instructions on the cement package to form your cement mixture.  Mix cement mixture in a plastic container.  Add a little bit of water at at time to the cement to achieve a paste-like consistency.
  2. Working quickly, pour cement into the small silicone heart mold.  Allow to dry and harden.
  3. When cement has completely hardened, pop cement hearts out of the mold.
  4. If desired, decorate your cement hearts using the gold paint pen.  Allow paint to dry completely.
  5. Glue a magnet on the back of the heart.
  6. Allow glue to dry completely and hang your magnets on any magnetic surface!
