DIY Tissue Paper Decoupage Serving Dish + Party Cake Dip Recipe

This has definitely been one of my busiest summers on record!  Between family gatherings, concerts, and birthday celebrations, I'm going to need a giant nap by the fall!  Our family has a ton of birthday celebrations happening during the summer. My husband and sister celebrated their birthdays in June.  My cousin's baby, my niece, my puppy, and I all turned a year older in July.  In August, we have two more summer birthdays to celebrate and that's not including the rest of the year!  Phew!

It seems like every weekend there has been another celebration!  I've been keeping a stash of greeting cards, stickers, and gift wrapping on hand at all times because we have so many birthdays to celebrate.  Sometimes I can go a little overboard buying paper products (because there are so many fun designs available!), but that's when I like to get creative and use some of these items for DIY projects.

I know one thing for sure about our family gatherings - there's always a ton of food to fill our bellies during our celebrations!  So today I am sharing a fun party dip recipe to share with all ages and an easy serving dish tutorial to serve it in!

Did you know that you can decoupage with tissue paper? With so many colors and patterns, it's easy to use tissue paper to decorate different items! With a little Mod Podge and a bunch of tissue paper squares, I turned a plain, plastic bowl and plate into a serving dish fit for a birthday celebration!

SUPPLIES

  • Small plastic bowl and plate
  • Various colors and patterns of tissue paper
  • Dishwasher-safe Mod Podge
  • Foam brush
  • Scissors
  • Super glue

STEPS

  1. Cut tissue paper into small squares.
  2. Make sure the outer surface of the bowl and plate are clean and dry.
  3. Begin applying Mod Podge to the outer surface of the bowl.  Place tissue paper in a scattered, overlapping pattern around the surface of the bowl.
  4. Allow Mod Podge to dry, then seal the outside of the bowl with another layer of Mod Podge.
  5. Allow Mod Podge to dry completely and repeat steps on the bottom of the serving plate.
  6. When the bowl and plate have completely dried, use super glue to glue the bowl onto the center of the plate.
  7. Allow glue to dry, then serve your favorite party dips and treats!

American Greetings

American Greetings Products

I made a trip to Walmart to stock up on American Greetings cards (I especially like the nature-themed Lily Pad Press line), stickers, tissue paper, and a roll of wrapping paper before we really got into summer birthdays. I found all of the American Greetings items I needed in a couple of the celebration aisles. Let's just say that I'm pretty much covered through the end of summer and throughout most of the fall!

I love whipping up a delicious recipe or bringing a homemade goodie to our special gatherings, but I'll always make sure to pick out a heartfelt card, as well. We've stopped exchanging gifts with some of the adults in the family, but it's still important to me to genuinely express my feelings through greeting cards. When you can't put your feelings into the right words, it's nice that American Greetings can do that for you with their line of cards and other items.
