I've had this DIY ornament idea written in my brainstorming notebook for years now! After seeing all of those starry, lunar, zodiac ornaments in Joann Fabrics this year, I knew this year would be the year I finally made these! So I grabbed some clear acrylic ornaments and used my Cricut Joy to create constellation ornaments for my little office Christmas tree.

I chose to make my zodiac sign (Leo) and my husband's zodiac sign (Cancer). I added a colorful splotch design to the back of each acrylic ornament. Then, I cut the constellation and applied it to the front of the ornament in metallic vinyl. Before hanging my new ornaments on the tree, I decided to add some clear rhinestones to really give these ornaments a starry, celestial look.

If you're hopping on Joann's design trend and decorating a celestial themed Christmas tree this holiday season, these DIY ornaments would make a cute addition! They would also make a fun gift for a friend who's into astrology.

If you don't have a Cricut cutting machine, you could easily make these ornaments with acrylic paint for the background and a metallic paint marker to draw the constellation.

DIY Acrylic Constellation Ornaments

You can choose to make the background in any color you wish. I wanted some bright, vibrant colors so I used teal and purple vinyl. Then, I used a glittery silver vinyl to cut the constellations. This ornament project is entirely customizable!

If your acrylic ornaments have a film on them, remember to peel it off of both sides. Then, open the project in Design Space. Choose your zodiac constellation from the images. Then, adjust the color of the background and size of the images, as needed. Follow the instructions to cut the images.

Weed the designs. Then, add the background to one side of the ornament. Flip and apply the constellation image to the other side.

If desired, add clear rhinestones to embellish the constellations and give them a starry feel. Apply the rhinestones using a gem-specific glue or another craft glue such as E6000.

Allow the glue to dry completely. Then, add a ribbon to the ornament for hanging. Hang on the tree or gift to an astrology lover.
