Earlier last week, I was over my parents' house. My mom and I decorated her tree together. Then, we went through her big book of recipes and started discussing plans for Christmas. I asked what kind of food I should bring for our holiday celebration. We both landed on one dish in particular that has been a favorite in the past - my everything seasoned pigs in a blanket.
My family tends to make a big spread for holidays - or just when the entire family gets together. And out of all of the appetizers and small bites that end up on the table, the pigs in a blanket tend to be the first to go. They are a classic! And they're even better when sprinkled with that salty, savory mix of everything seasoning!
For Christmas, I form the pigs in a blanket into a wreath decorated with rosemary garnish for a festive touch. They end up like a big pull-apart style ring. Along with everything seasoning, a light layer of Dijon mustard is spread onto the crescent roll dough before rolling up the mini hot dogs to add a hint of tangy flavor.
Everything Pigs in a Blanket Wreath
This easy appetizer is perfect for Christmas festivities or even New Year's Eve. Aside from family gatherings, we tend to have appetizer nights on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Pigs in a blanket are always part of our spread!
To start this dish, we need to prepare a large baking sheet with cooking spray or parchment paper. Then, preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Unroll the tube of crescent roll dough and cut it into 26 strips. Then, brush each strip with some Dijon mustard.
Now, we're going to wrap a mini hot dog in each strip of dough. Make an egg wash and brush the tops of the wrapped hot dogs. Then, sprinkle them with everything seasoning.
Arrange the pigs in a blanket into a circular pattern on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure to keep them close, almost touching, so they'll bake together.
Bake for about 20 minutes, or until they're golden brown.
Cool slightly. Then, carefully slide the pigs in a blanket wreath onto a platter or large plate. In the center of the wreath, place a small bowl of ketchup or mustard.
If you really want to make this dish look festive for the holidays, place rosemary around the edge of the pigs in a blanket wreath. Then, serve.
