When I found this glass pine cone ornament at Michaels, I knew there was one thing I wanted to make with it - a woodland themed terrarium. So I started digging through my craft supplies and found just what I needed to create a holiday forest scene complete with a cute fox inhabitant. I had the fox from a fairy garden I made years ago. The fox would be the central focus of the ornament.
I glued the fox onto a small chunk of wood and glued the wood to the bottom of the ornament.. Then, I added a cushy layer of glittery green reindeer moss around the bottom to add some holiday sparkle. After that, I added some tiny woodland embellishments like mini pine cones, red beads, and mini mushrooms.
I put this ornament on our dining room Christmas tree. It's pretty much a nature themed tree with outdoorsy sporting ornaments sporadically placed around it. Technically, it's my husband's tree. And since he got upgraded to a bigger tree this year, I've been trying to fill it up. This ornament fit right in!
DIY Woodland Terrarium Ornament
If you can't find a glass pine cone terrarium ornament, I've also seen regular terrarium globe ornaments in glass and plastic that would work for this project. You could also play around with other woodland miniatures to create your own holiday forest scene.
This terrarium ornament is super easy to make! To start, I glued my mini fox onto a slice of wood. The wood was a tiny piece that my husband cut for me. But you might be able to find something similar at the craft store. If not, you can glue the mini fox right into the ornament.
Once the fox was glued onto the wood slice, I added E6000 to the bottom of the wood slice and glued it inside the ornament.
Then, I glued reindeer moss all around the wood slice and bottom of the ornament. I had a bag of glittery reindeer moss, but regular green reindeer moss would look just as nice.
I finished the ornament by gluing in tiny embellishments. I had some mini pine cones so I glued them inside along with some mini mushrooms I found at the craft store. To add an extra festive touch, I glued in tiny red beads.
My ornament came with a red ribbon for hanging. But if your terrarium ornament doesn't, you can cut a piece of twine or ribbon for hanging. Then, display the ornament on your tree or gift to a forestcore friend or family member.

This easy ornament project would make a nice gift for a nature loving friend or family member. If they have a favorite forest animal, try finding a miniature of that animal instead of a fox.
