Dorothy Gale once said, “There’s no place like home.” That’s usually where I spend Halloween. So go the days of trick-or-treating and attending costume parties. These days, you can find me throwing together a Halloween themed meal and listening for little monsters to ring our doorbell for candy.
Since Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, we’ll probably take Hunter for his weekend run/walk in the park in the morning. That’s to be followed with a vet appointment for another round of puppy shots. During his last vet visit, it was encouraged that I bring Hunter in his skeleton costume. While our plans aren’t too exciting, I still wanted to dress up this year. Since Hunter’s a Cairn Terrier just like Toto, I knew I had to be Dorothy!
DIY Modern Day Dorothy Gale Costume
The Wizard of Oz is one of my all-time favorite movies. When I was in elementary school, I remember borrowing my friend’s Dorothy costume. That classic gingham dress and Toto in a basket never made it out for trick-or-treating. I probably ditched Dorothy to be the Wicked Witch instead (I always did love her!).
However, I owe it to Dorothy to try again. So this year, I’ve decided to be a modern version of Dorothy Gale. I’ve been wanting to add a gingham button-down shirt to my wardrobe, so I bought a chambray version that works perfect for this costume! I even bought myself new, red, classic canvas sneakers. What girl doesn’t want her very own pair of ruby slippers?
Here’s what you need to become a Modern Day Dorothy Gale:
- Gingham chambray shirt
- Red canvas sneakers
- Denim bow headband
- Rhinestone bow earrings
- Shimmery red nail polish
- Cairn Terrier, optional
