Coming from an Italian family, weekends are made for pasta dishes and a loaf of crusty garlic bread! The weekends are also meant for spending quality time with family.  All of my ongoing projects can take up a big chunk of my day, sometimes including evenings.  So I try to stay unplugged as much as possible during the weekend.

Instead of worrying about e-mails piling up and deadlines to hit over the weekend, we've been packing up the puppy and going for walks in the park on Saturday mornings, lighting up the fire pit at night, and spending quality time with each other. That's so important and so easy to forget when our lives seem to be filled with one constant to-do list after the other!

Last weekend, after a morning of running around the park with Hunter and an afternoon of catching up around the house, I decided to make a big pot of spaghetti with a sweet Italian sausage meat sauce for dinner.  Something simple and completely satisfying with a nice kick to it.

Creamy and Spicy Tomato and Sausage Pasta

This pasta dish is incredibly flavorful and so easy to make!  Just brown some crumbled sausage.  While the sausage is browning, cook the spaghetti according to the package.  Then, add a jar of sauce and stir in some heavy cream.  Add in the garlic, sausage, and crushed red pepper, season with salt and pepper, and serve!

I like to use sausage links and crumble it myself.  That way I can get nice, big chunks of meat in my sauce.

So the first thing I did was cut open the sausage links and add the sausage to pan.  I cooked the sausage over medium heat, crumbling it as it cooked.  Once it was completely browned, I drained the pan and set the sausage aside.

Next, I brought a pot of salted water to boil and cooked the spaghetti just until al dente.  Then, I drained it in the pot and brought it back to the stovetop.

Now, I heat the stove again to medium and added in the jar of sauce.  Then, I added the heavy cream and stirred to combine.

Add the garlic, sausage, and crushed red pepper to the pasta.  Season with salt and pepper and toss to combine.

Allow everything to warm up for a few minutes.  Then, serve with Parmesan cheese on top.
