Years ago, I made a DIY Halloween wreath using a witch hat as my wreath base. The hat was then embellished with spooky eyeball filled flowers, a frog skeleton, and a bat. It was cute, but I wanted to update the general idea with a more fall floral look.
While I was looking for inspiration for my witch hat, I found a picture of Stevie Nicks - who else? - wearing a custom made witch hat adorned with dried flowers and ribbon. It was so beautiful and exactly the natural look I was going for!
So off I went in search of the perfect fall florals to create my vision. It took a while to find just the right combination of flowers and colors, but I scored big at JOANN's last month. They were having a buy one, get two free deal on Bloom Room brand florals.
I ended up finding the exact - I mean, the exact - color combos and types of flowers and stems I was looking for! I even managed to find some Halloween ribbon on sale that worked perfectly for my hat!
Fall Floral Witch Hat DIY
After putting this witch hat together, I glued ribbon onto the back of it so I could hang it from my door. But it would also make a pretty tabletop decoration or centerpiece for the Halloween season.
The first thing we're going to do is cut our ribbon to fit around the bottom of the point. If desired, cut two longer pieces to trail off the end of the hat. Heat a glue gun and glue the ribbon in place.
Figure out which way the point of the witch hat falls naturally and glue it flat onto the hat. Now, we're going to start trimming the flowers with wire cutters and arranging them around the hat. Glue the flowers into place.
Once the glue has dried completely, add a loop of twine or ribbon to the back for hanging.
Allow the glue to dry and then display the witch hat next to cinnamon brooms or on the back of a door.
SUPPLIES
- Witch hat

- Wheat
- Autumn leaves
STEPS
- Heat up your glue gun and cut a piece of orange ribbon.
- When the glue gun is hot, create a loop with the ribbon and glue it onto the back of the witch hat.
- Next, start arranging the Halloween roses. Trim the stems with wire cutters and begin gluing the roses and leave into place.
- Remove the elastic string from the vinyl hanging bat. Then, glue the frog skeleton and bat onto the other side of the witch hat.
- Get witchy with it and hang your wicked, new Halloween wreath on the front door!
While a witch hat is a classic Halloween symbol, adding fall florals to it tones down the spooky aspect. Instead, the hat becomes more of a seasonal fall decoration that adds a pretty touch to your Halloween decor.
