It finally feels like gardening season around here!  I've been buying up plants and flowers like it's nobody's business the past couple of weeks!  This week, my husband had a half day off of work so we were able to plant our garden for this year.  We have a ton of tomatoes and peppers growing this year, along with eggplant, zucchini, peas, green beans, cucumbers, and who knows what else may have found its way into our garden!

A lot of my herbs came back from last year, but I planted a bunch of new herbs like pineapple sage and cinnamon basil.  I needed another plant to round out a corner in our backyard, so I picked up a big pot of lavender from a local greenhouse a couple weeks ago.  Lavender has always been one of my favorite herbs.  It not only smells nice and has calming properties, but it looks nice when it flowers!

I'm allergic to chamomile (it's in the ragweed family) so I end up having to check a lot of tea and beauty labels in order to avoid a nasty reaction.  That's another reason why I'm such a big fan of lavender.  It's a nice alternative!  Especially in lotions and skincare.

I've been trying to get my skin totally prepped and ready for Summer.  I have pretty dry skin to begin with so it's not always easy!  However, I  absolutely love using body scrubs for easy exfoliation.  So I decided to make a jar of lavender sugar scrub last week using my fresh garden lavender and some lavender essential oil.  The way I've been using it, I can tell I'll be making batch-after-batch this Summer!

This DIY sugar scrub is a great way to naturally pamper your skin without having to worry about nasty chemicals.  If you don't have fresh lavender on hand, you can omit it and just use lavender essential oil.  I can't wait to make other sugar scrubs using fresh herbs from my garden - a mint one would be really nice, too!
