Lemon-Lime Green Sun Tea

As each year passes, I realize how many of my family's foodie traditions I've taken with me.  Summer was always the best time of year as a kid.  School was out, hot, sunny days were in, and Mom's sun tea was left to brew on the front steps.

As an adult, iced tea is still one of my favorite Summertime beverages.  I prefer to brew it myself so I can play around with the strength of the tea, as well as the flavor and sweetness.  I'll admit that I'm more of a cold steeper when it comes to making my tea.  I love how easy it is to stick tea in the fridge and let it do the work for you.  It's just as easy, if not quicker, to brew your tea outside on a sunny, Summer day!

Mom recommends using 6-8 tea bags, but you can tweak the amount based on how strong you like your tea.  I like my green tea on the lighter side so I used 6 tea bags.  Add orange slices instead of lemon and lime to green tea for another citrus twist!  Sprigs of mint work well with green tea, too.

Green tea is my favorite because it's a nice and refreshing tea with a light flavor that pairs well with most fruit and herbs.  It's also packed with lots of health benefits and antioxidants! Experiment with different types of tea.  Black tea makes a wonderful sweet, Southern style sun tea when paired with a simple syrup.  Your "possibili-teas" are endless!

Everything you need to make sun tea can be found at Walmart.  When I called my Mom to ask about her sun tea recipe, I made a trip to Walmart to buy a new drink dispenser and a couple boxes of Bigelow green tea.  Bigelow Tea believes in the freshness of their products. That's why they seal their tea bags in a foil pouch. You can smell how fresh the tea is as soon as you open up the tea bag!
