10 Ways to Stay Hydrated This Summer

Despite the fact that this past Winter was pretty brutal on the East Coast, I'll admit that I haven't been a big fan of this Summer so far. It's been hot, wet, and nasty!  It seems that just about every other day there's been a threat of severe thunderstorms.  This Summer's brought a lot of rain and, in turn, a lot of humidity.

I generally drink a lot of fluids during the day, but my intake has increased with the hot and sticky weather.  Still, there are some days when I feel like I'm just not getting enough water into my body.  Today, I'm sharing 10 ways to keep you cool, and most importantly, hydrated this Summer.

WATER

Of course, we all know it's important to drink 8 glasses of water each day.  Sometimes it's hard to drink it straight up, so I like to get creative.  If you can't stand drinking plain water, don't worry.  There are lots of other options to ensure you stay hydrated and cool this Summer!

SPARKLING WATER/SELTZER

If you prefer carbonated beverages, avoid soda and turn to sparkling water or seltzer.  You'll get all the fizz without the calories and sugar!

INFUSIONS

Investing in an infusion pitcher was one of the best ways to get me to drink more water throughout the day.  With so many delicious Summer fruits around this time of year, the flavor combinations are endless!  Try infusing water with berries, peaches, and pineapple.  I recently shared a cucumber-mint infusion that's easy to make and easier to drink down!

CUCUMBERS

Speaking of cucumbers, did you know that they contain over 95% water?  Consider slicing them up as a snack or adding them to a salad.

WATERMELON

With a fruit that contains "water" in its name, you know it's going to be hydrating!  Watermelon is extremely refreshing to snack on during the Summer.  Cube it up and add it to a bottle of water!  That's a trick my sister recently taught me and it's delicious!

COCONUT WATER

Nothing seems to quench my thirst better than coconut water!  I feel instantly refreshed after drinking it and love its tropical flavor!  Just watch out for sugar content in different brands.

SOUP

I know.  It's Summer.  It's hot.  So you probably don't want to eat a ton of soup.  However, there are chilled versions you can make.  Whether like your soup hot or cold, make sure to check the sodium content since salt will make you thirsty all over again!

HERBAL TEAS

Herbal teas are one of my favorite teas to drink.  They are so many delicious flavors to choose from and they're not dehydrating like caffeinated teas.  Try them over ice with a splash of seltzer!

SMOOTHIES

We have so many fresh berries in our backyard right now that I've been freezing them by the bagfuls!  So, of course, that makes it perfectly convenient to grab a mix and throw them into a smoothie!  They're a perfect way to quench your thirst, keep you cooled off, and feeling full!  Try a smoothie bowl for a new twist on this fruit-filled beverage!

ICE POPS

Whether you make your own popsicles, buy them in the store, or from an ice cream truck, ice pops are a full way to stay cool and hydrated on a hot, Summer day!  Again, watch the sugar content in these icy treats.
