Is it even July if there's not some sort of shark program on TV in our house? SharkFest is still happening and Shark Week's about to begin. It's time to dive into some fin-tastic shark content and take a bite out of some ocean-themed snacks!
I'm all about the savory snacks. So in honor of this shark-filled TV celebration, I decided to make a savory style shark bait snack mix. The majority of "shark bait" style snack mixes I've seen on Pinterest are sweet or have some sort of sweet element added to them.
While I'm not opposed to a good gummy shark or Swedish fish, I'm way more of a salty snacker. This snack mix includes some of my favorite salty and savory flavors. It makes quite an addictive snack to enjoy while watching all of your favorite shark shows!
What's in This Savory Shark Bait Snack Mix?
Ramen Noodles
Wait. What? Trust me on this! Crunchy pieces of toasted ramen noodles are delicious in this mix! The broken pieces of ramen also kind of remind me of sea foam or ocean waves. Very on theme!
Mini Pretzels
The mini pretzels add a nice salty touch to this snack mix. Plus, who doesn't love pretzels?! I like the mini size for snack mixes.
Goldfish Crackers
"Here sharky, sharky!" The sharks need their bait, right? Poor Goldfish! But they do serve as a nice and cheesy addition this snack mix. I used the Mega cheddar Goldfish so they really stood out in the mix.
Seaweed Peanuts
Since we're making an ocean-themed snack, I had to add some seaweed into it. Straight seaweed snacks are often a bit too "fishy" for me. But I do enjoy snacking on seaweed peanuts. The seaweed peanuts I used have a crunchy umami coating containing dried seaweed on them. So good!
Wasabi Peas
A shark snack has to bite back! So I added wasabi peas to the mix. Not only do they add some more color, but the wasabi coating gives the mix a nice "zip" to it!
How to Make Savory Shark Bait Snack Mix
Now that we know what's in this mix, let's put it all together! It's very easy to make! The hardest step (and it's not even that hard) is toasting the ramen. Once that's done, all you need to do is toss everything together and serve!
The first thing we're going to do is add the olive oil to a large skillet. Heat it over medium heat. Then, add broken ramen noodles to the skillet (save the flavor packet for later). Toast them for a few minutes, stirring continuously, until they're golden brown. Them, remove them from the skillet and let them cool.
Once the ramen is cool, add the noodles and the rest of the ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Use your hands or a spoon to toss everything together. If you want a slight flavor boost, add 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of the ramen noodle flavor packet to the snack mix before tossing everything together.
Serve the snack mix immediately or store in an airtight container.
