By now you probably know that I love a good foodie holiday. So today, I'm celebrating National Trail Mix Day with another recipe from the archives. Would you believe that this recipe was originally inspired by loose tea? Yup! Tea! David's Tea has a Banana Nut Bread tea that was released around Halloween a few years ago. It was first sold in limited quantities and it sold out fast! While I was able to try it as a latte, I couldn't get my hands on any of the tea to bring home during that time (thankfully, it's currently available on their website).
So I took a photograph of the ingredient list, grabbed what was on the list, and decided to try and make my own. Well, after two test runs steeping my homemade version of this tea, I was left with a cup of hot water infused with a slightly sweet banana flavor. However, the remainder of my recipe fail made one hell of a trail mix! So here I am sharing it as one of those "let's pretend that original idea never happened" recipe posts!
This sweet mix is perfect to pack into school lunches or grab when you're on-the-go!
I love keeping trail mix in the house to nibble on, but packaged trail mix can get expensive. That's why I am obsessed with the bulk bins at Whole Foods! This trail mix cost me about $6.00 to make and I got a quart mason jar's worth and then some!
I am definitely that crazy Whole Foods shopper that hangs around the bulk bins and ends up loading half her cart with bags full of goodies. It's so worth it! You can't go wrong spending 18 cents for pumpkin seeds or 30 cents for organic currants! Plus, the low fat blueberry banana granola was a tasty, new discovery for me. Now, that will be a staple in my shopping cart!

Notes
This trail mix is made with ingredients you can feel good about snacking on! Go one step healthier by looking for unsweetened dried fruit to add to this mix! It's a sweet, little snack that's full of great banana flavor!
If you don't have a Whole Foods near you, look for these ingredients in the bulk bins in the organic section of your favorite grocery store. It'll save you a ton of money since you'll only have to grab the amount of each ingredient needed to make this mix!
