These DIY Christmas Pressed Flower Lanterns will add a pretty glow to your holiday decor. They're made with mason jars, frosted spray paint, pressed flowers, and Mod Podge.

Last year, I made Scented Christmas Wax Sachets to include with Christmas gifts. They were beautiful and immediately became one of my favorite projects that I've ever made! I made a ton of those ornaments, but I was left with several sheets of pressed flowers.
Fast forward to this past summer. I follow The Herbal Academy and they shared a pressed flower lantern project on their blog and inspiration struck! Instead of making the lanterns for summer, I filed the project away in the back of my mind. I planned to make holiday pressed flower lanterns to light up during the Christmas season.
The red, white, pink, and green florals were such a pretty color combination for the wax sachets. So I wanted to use that color scheme again for these pressed flower lanterns. As an added touch, I also wanted to spray paint the jars with frosted glass spray paint to make them look icy and wintry.
DIY Christmas Pressed Flower Lanterns
I made sure to make these lanterns before Thanksgiving so I could use them to, not only decorate our home, but to bring to our Thanksgiving celebration as a gift. These lanterns would look so pretty on a Thanksgiving or holiday table, or even hung in a window.
The first step in making these lanterns is to make sure the jars are nice and clean. Then, carefully remove the metal hanger. Take the jars outside and spray them with frosted glass spray paint. I used two coats. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Once the paint is dry, brush a thin layer of Mod Podge around the jar. I found that it was easier to work in sections. Then, start to gently press the flowers into place. Allow them to dry completely. Then, add another layer of Mod Podge on top to seal them.
After the Mod Podge has dried completely, you can add the metal hangers back onto the jars. Then, place an LED votive candle inside. I like to use these flameless votives. There's 12 in a set and they have timers on them!
Light up the lanterns at night or make a few for easy hostess or holiday gifts!
SUPPLIES
- Mason jars with metal hangers
- If you can't find these jars at the dollar store, you can purchase stainless steel wire hangers to use on plain canning jars.
- Frosted glass spray paint
- Matte Mod Podge
- Paintbrush or foam brush
- Pressed flowers
- LED votive candles
- Optional: craft tweezers
STEPS
- Make sure the surface of the jars are clean and dry. Then, remove the metal hangers from the jars and set aside. Take the jars outside and spray paint with 1-2 coats of frosted glass spray paint. Allow to dry completely.
- Once the paint is dry, add a thin layer of Mod Podge to the jar, working in sections. Carefully press the flowers in place around the jar. Allow the glue to dry.
- When the glue is dry, follow with another thin layer to seal the flowers onto the jar. Set the jars aside once again to dry.
- Once the glue has dried, place the metal hangers back onto the jars and place an LED votive (fairy lights would work, too) inside the jar. At night, turn the candles on and enjoy the glow!
While I wouldn't place these lanterns outside, they will add to the holiday glow inside your home! The amount of jars you make is totally up to you. The links provided will allow you to have enough supplies to make several!
