My husband and I aren't big on celebrating Valentine's Day. But every year, I always get him something small as a token of my love and appreciation. Usually it's a box of chocolates, a mushy (sometimes naughty) card, a romantic homemade dinner for two, and dessert picked up from the bakery. This Valentine's Day, I'm also giving him an actual gift because he's doing a lot for me this year and deserves everything and more.

My husband loves to golf. So to give him something to look forward to when the weather warms up, I decided to give him a golf-themed gift. I've already bought him a heart-shaped box of chocolates with a golf ball design on the front. And I plan on going to the pro shop at the local golf course to buy him a gift card he can use for a round or two of golf.

To tie the whole gift together, I decided to also make him a golf-themed Valentine's Day card. Sure, I could probably find a golf themed card on Amazon or Etsy. But I already have all the supplies I need to create a custom Valentine's Day card for my husband with my Cricut Maker - including a ton of Insert Cards!

So to use what I have, we're taking it back a little old school and using Cricut's Insert Cards instead of Cutaway Cards. You could probably modify this design to work with the Cutaway Cards, but since my stash of Insert Cards is pretty thick, we're going to whip up a cute golf Valentine with the Cricut Maker, Insert Cards, and pens.

The first thing I did was design my card in Design Space. I made sure I used my Insert Card corners as a guideline for my design. Then, I created a simple golf-themed Valentine's Day inside the corners using a combination of cutout images and drawn text.

Once the design was created, I used my Cricut Maker, card mat, and Insert Card to cut out and draw the images and text.

The “fore” font wasn't colored in, so I used the fine point pen to bold the text.

After that, I placed a glittery red Insert Card into the cut corners to finish the card. I had to trim my Insert Card since I made my design smaller, but it still worked out in the end.

All that's left to do is write it out and give it to my husband with his gifts on Valentine's Day!

  4. Place a red Insert Card into the cut card. If necessary, use a paper trimmer to trim the Insert Card to fit.
