DIY Diorama Christmas Ornaments

There is a store downtown that I can't help but walk into every time I'm near it.  It's called The Farmhouse Store and it has some of the most unique and incredible items for the home.  I especially love it around Christmastime because the store is filled with really interesting ornaments with a cool, vintage appeal.  Every year, I try to get to the store before Christmas to pick up a new ornament.

I ran downtown the other day to grab a few things from Trader Joe's.  It just reopened after a Winter storm caused a roof collapse this past year. While I was there, I decided to take a quick walk around. I stopped at Starbucks for a chestnut praline latte (my new holiday favorite!) and then made my way to The Farmhouse. Unfortunately, the store still hadn't opened yet.  I was pressed for time so I decided just to go home.  Total bummer, but so many of their ornaments already hang from my tree. There's always next year!

A few years ago, I had purchased a vintage looking diorama ornament from The Farmhouse. Inside of the glass ornament was a glittery reindeer.  It was such a simple ornament, but so pretty. Unfortunately, it got chipped and broke.  I couldn't salvage it.  I had bell cups left from the DIY Halloween Air Plant Pumpkin Bell Cups I made this past Fall.  Once the holiday season rolled back around, I immediately became inspired to make my own Farmhouse inspired diorama ornament using a bell cup.

SUPPLIES

• Natural bell cups
• Bottle brush trees
• Green Spanish moss
• E6000
• Red mini beads
• Baker's twine
• Cup hook

STEPS

1. Using the cup hook, screw a hole into the top of a bell cup.  Remove the screw.
2. Add a drop of glue to the bottom of a bottle brush tree.  Carefully place the tree inside the bell cup.  Keep the bell cup upright and allow the glue to dry completely.
3. Next, add a little glue to the bottom of the bell cup and carefully place a little Spanish moss inside.
4. Measure a strand of mini beads to fit around the opening of the bell cup.  Glue the mini beads in place and allow the glue to dry.
5. String baker's twine through the hole at the top of the bell cup and hang your ornament!

I wanted to keep these ornaments as natural looking as possible, but you could certainly add glitter or other embellishments to them.  I have a comfy and cozy Christmas theme for my tree this year, so these ornaments fit right in!  And because they're not glass, I shouldn't have a problem with breakage this year!

Since Christmas is almost here, I probably won't get a chance to visit the Farmhouse before the holiday arrives. Even so, I'm satisfied in knowing that their collection of amazing ornaments has inspired one of my handmade ones this year!
