Depending on my work schedule, I like to go to my parents' house at least once a week. It's time I get to spend with my dad. I stop at the local bakery to pick up his favorite light cheesecake as an afternoon treat. Then, I pack Hunter into the car and we're off for our visit!
Hunter loves it at my parents' house because, while I'm visiting with my dad, he gets to play with my parents' dogs. My parents have two dogs - a Bichon Frise named Beau and a Cairn Terrier named Dusty. They're older dogs and don't really mind Hunter's puppy energy!
However, Hunter's gotten really comfortable in my parents' house. Now, he'll run right up to the backdoor to be let out as soon as we get there. Nope! It's not a bathroom stop. He needs to go run around and check things out because he's nosy! When he runs back inside, he drinks half of one of the two water bowls and often helps himself to some of the other dogs' food.
In the past, I've brought over dog food and treats to make up for Hunter's slightly rude, over-excited puppy behavior. But with Halloween just around the corner, I didn't want to just bring over more food and treats for the dogs. I wanted to jump on the trend of BOO'ing someone with a special surprise basket of treats and toys for Dusty and Beau!
My mom had recently mentioned that some of Dusty and Beau's toys were getting old and worn out. So I decided to create a couple DIY Halloween bottle crunchers for each of the dogs. I simply made them with an empty water bottle, a sock, and monstrous felt embellishments. What dog doesn't love the crinkling sound of an empty water bottle? That's one of Hunter's most favorite (and cheapest) toys!
How to Make a Halloween BOO Kit for Dogs

- Non-toxic hot glue sticks
STEPS
- Cut eyes, a mouth, or fangs out of felt.
- Slip a sock over a water bottle and tie a knot at the opened end of the sock.

- Let your pups play away!
Now that you've got some super cute monster toys to put in your BOO kit, it's time to grab some treats! I picked up PEDIGREE® MARROBONE™ Real Beef Flavor Treats Mini, PEDIGREE® DENTASTIX™ Fresh Treats Small/ Medium, and a few packages of CESAR® SAVORY DELIGHTS® ROTISSERIE CHICKEN FLAVOR WITH BACON & CHEESE during one of my last Walmart trips. All of these products can be found in the Pet Care section of the store.
I added everything to a basket that doubles as toy storage. I lined it with American Greetings® tissue paper, then filled it with Dusty and Beau's new treats and bottle crunchers. Last, but not least, I printed out this printable card and stuck it on one of the boxes of treats with an American Greetings® Halloween sticker. All of the American Greetings® products can also be found at Walmart in the celebration aisles.
I'm planning another visit to my parents' house soon. I can't wait to surprise Dusty and Beau with their new basket of goodies! I know that my parents will appreciate the sweet gesture and Hunter will definitely score some points from his buddies!
