Three Step DIY Marbleized Ornaments

This past weekend, I headed to my parents' house to hang with the family.  My nieces were coming over and I love spending quality Aunt Jess time with them.  My three year old niece is a blast and my one year old niece cracks me up! We all got to Mom and Dad's house just in time to help decorate the tree.  So I enlisted the help of my nieces to hang ornaments with me.  Well, that didn't last very long, but it was still a lot of fun!  I ended up finishing the tree for my mom. Then, my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and I saw Moana (it's the first new Disney movie I've seen in a long time and I absolutely loved it).

While we were decorating the tree, we rummaged through boxes of old ornaments.  We found ornaments from the 80s, a few childhood favorites, and a couple that needed a quick fix.  Mom heated up the hot glue gun so I could get to work on fixing one of my favorite ornaments.  It's an old, plastic Santa Claus ice fishing for a present.  I took a popsicle reindeer my sister had made home to give it some new googly eyes. It reminded me of how much I still love to make new ornaments each year!

So while I was watching It's a Wonderful Life over the weekend and brainstorming new ideas for the blog, I decided to make a couple new ornaments for the tree.  I absolutely love the marble trend, but wasn't into the potential mess of using a bucket of water to achieve a marbled look. Instead, I dug through my basket of paints and decided to try a different technique to achieve a marbled look.  I was quite impressed with the outcome and love my new marbleized ornaments!

SUPPLIES

• Clear ornaments
• White acrylic paint
• Metallic gold acrylic paint
• Black acrylic paint

STEPS

1. Carefully remove the top off of an ornament.
2. Squeeze a couple of drops of each paint color into the ornament.
3. Give the ornament a good swirl or gently shake it (with a gloved finger over the top to avoid paint from splattering) and allow the ornament to dry before putting the top back on.

There you go!  Beautiful marbleized ornaments in just three easy steps!  I used black, white, and gold paint for a more classic marble look, but you can use any color combo you like.  Make a set of marbleized ornaments to match your tree's theme or create a set as a pretty, handmade gift!
