How to Make the Most of Your Sick Day

As adults, we know it’s not always easy to take a sick day and just relax.  We live in a busy world where we’re forever on the go and feel like we’re being tugged in all sorts of directions.  Even a sick day can’t seem to slow us down! If you have kids, sick days aren’t exactly in their schedule.  Have a deadline you absolutely have to meet?  Better fire up the computer and get back to work!

Self-care is so important, but we often forget about it when our everyday tasks continue to beckon us.  Being sick doesn’t mean you have to completely compromise your daily schedule – within reason, of course.  So today, I wanted to share a few ways to take care of yourself and take full advantage of your sick day while you’re home.

WORK FROM HOME…OR BETTER YET, IN BED!

If you can’t afford to take a day off from work, ask if the option is available to work from home.  I am thankful to have a home office and a cozy work environment.  When I’m not feeling well and have deadlines to meet, it’s nice to have the option to work in complete comfort.  Even if that means propping up some pillows and making my bed my home office for the day!

I’m not a fan of unproductive days.  I like to stay motivated, so this is always such a great option for me! Despite being completely comfy against a stack of fluffy pillows and a pile of warm blankets, I always manage to get things done!

BINGE WATCH MOVIES AND TV SHOWS

If your focus just isn’t there, you’ve called out sick for the day, and you’re getting some much-needed rest time, sometimes all it takes is a good movie marathon to make you feel a little better!  I love popping in DVDs I haven’t watched in a while when I’m not feeling well.  And it’s always a bonus when I happen to catch one of my favorite old movies on TV while I’m in total couch potato mode!

While you’re having your movie marathon day, keep a pen and notebook next to you.  You never know when inspiration might hit!  You’ll want to be ready in case you’re inspired to jot down a few notes or make a to-do list for the following day!

DRINK TEA. LOTS AND LOTS OF TEA!

We all know that rest and liquids are a crucial part of kicking a cold.  A hot cup of tea can provide some comfort when you’re under the weather.  It can soothe a sore throat and warm the body.  I choose to drink Bigelow Tea, not just when I’m sick, but when I feel the need to relax.  I “tea proudly” knowing that I’m sipping on quality tea and ingredients!

Bigelow’s Green Tea with Lemon and Lemon Ginger flavors are my favorite!  I love drinking green tea for its amazing benefits.  The addition of lemon gives it a great zing!  And lemon and ginger are one of my favorite tea combos when I’m not feeling well.  It always warms me up and makes me feel a little better.

And if all else fails, it’s always nice to have a snuggle buddy to hang with you while you’re fighting a cold! Will you be stocking up on tea for cold and flu season? Oh, how I dread sick days. But, you’re so right about being prepared. Movies and a hot cup of tea do make it more tolerable. PS Your dog is adorable! #client

Thanks so much, Courtney! 🙂 If I don’t have to buckle down and get work done, I’m all for a good movie marathon when I’m not feeling well!

I love your mug! Working from home is the best… though since I work from home on the regular sick days mean nahhhh-thing and all day Gilmore Girls binges lmao but always tea. I used to use Lipton Sleepy Time Tea but it disappeared awhile back so I’ll try the Bigelow options you showed here! Thank you!

Thank you! That mug was a great Walmart find! I’m definitely grateful for working from home. Especially on days when I’m not feeling up to speed. And a good Gilmore Girls marathon always helps to put me in a better mood! Definitely try those Bigelow teas. The Lemon Ginger is my favorite!

This makes sick days not sound so bad! I’m always up for a hot cup of tea and binge watching Netflix, especially on sick days

Cozy blankets, Netflix, and tea. Nope! Not so bad at all! 🙂
