DIY Slime Filled Easter Eggs

Ditch the candy and give kids DIY Slime Filled Easter Eggs in their basket this year! They’ll love finding stretchy, glittery, scented slime Easter morning!

Can you believe that Easter is this Sunday?  This year seems to be flying by just like last year did!  I wish it would slow down just a bit so I could finish catching up.  Speaking of catching up, I almost thought I would have to put this DIY aside.  The Easter season was a busy one for me this year!  I’m grateful for all of the new Easter recipes and projects I was able to share, but I’m slightly exhausted from it!  It doesn’t help that holidays usually mean traveling back and forth between families.  Holidays always leave me wanting a nap!

But since I knew I would see my nieces on Easter, I decided to make them something special.  My three year old and nine year old niece are obsessed with the slime trend!  I took the opportunity to make them some slime-filled Easter eggs.  The last – and only time – I made slime was for  St. Patrick’s Day.  I gave a jar to my three year old niece to play with.  She had fun stretching it, but the next time I saw her, she told me it was “too wet and sticky.”  Try again, Aunt Jess.  

Since that last batch of slime, claims have been about Borax not being safe for slime making (don’t worry – I’ll update my other tutorial).  This time, I think I’ve perfected my slime recipe with an easy tutorial using eye contact solution and baking soda!  

The consistency of the slime feels a little thicker than the other slime I made, too.  It’s less sticky than the other batch and has a good stretch to it.  I added glitter to all of the slime I made.  Some of the eggs include Easter confetti for a festive touch.  I even added a few drops of different essential oils to each color to make the slime scented!

SUPPLIES

• 4 oz. bottle of Elmer’s glue, clear or white
• 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
• Food coloring or paint
• Pastel glitter
• Eye contact solution
• Disposable bowls and spoons
• Clear top Easter eggs
• Easter confetti, optional
• Essential oil, optional

STEPS

1. Pour Elmer’s glue into a disposable bowl.  Stir in 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
2. At this time, you can add in coloring or glitter.  Add as much or as little as you like.  
3. Next, begin adding eye contact solution a few squirts at a time.  You’ll see the slime immediately begin to pull together.  Continue adding solution until it’s not too sticky to pick up with your hands.
4. Begin kneading the slime until it’s no longer sticky and has a good stretch to it.  Add a few drops of essential oil to make the slime scented (blue – vanilla, purple – lavender, pink – lemon, green – lime).
5. Toss in a few pieces of Easter confetti, if desired.
6. Split slime between Easter eggs.  One bottle of glue makes about 2-4 eggs, depending on how much you bulk them up with glitter and confetti. 
7. Close the eggs and add them to Easter baskets for a fun, non-candy Easter treat!

Oriental Trading had everything I needed to make these DIY Slime Filled Easter Eggs!  The clear top plastic eggs were a great find and I got a dozen Elmer’s glue bottles – enough to fill my eggs and have a few bottles leftover for future slime projects!

It’s too late to order for Easter, but you can still stock up on slime making supplies!  Use what you have on hand and get creative with the kids over Easter weekend.  Have a Happy Easter and happy slime making!
