A few weeks ago, I saw a really cute pet project on Instagram. The user made a clay pumpkin with her dog's paw prints pressed into it. I was very close to making this project with Hunter. But then, I didn't really see a way to display the paw print pumpkin after making it. I don't have a Halloween tree (sadly) and don't really have any shelf space. So I pivoted.
I took the inspiration from this project and decided that I would create a paw print pumpkin instead. I grabbed a 6 inch craft pumpkin and black matte acrylic paint from the craft store (non-toxic and a safe brand for pets). I also made sure I had some pet cleaning wipes on hand to immediately clean up Hunter's paws after making this pumpkin.

So Hunter and I had a crafternoon and created a really cute Halloween pumpkin together! Hunter really isn't into having his paws touched, but he can be persuaded into things with treats. I gave one of his paws a quick paint job and pressed two paw prints onto the pumpkin. I made sure to leave room to paint the letter "B" before the paw prints. Then, I quickly wiped off Hunter's paw and left the paint to dry.
Boo Paw Print Pumpkin
While the original project was adorable, I just felt that a pumpkin would be a way better way to let Hunter join in on the Halloween fun! This DIY makes a cute keepsake that can easily be displayed year after year! Plus, the "BOO" made out of paw prints adds a really cute touch for spooky season.

First, make sure your pet's paws are clean and dry. Then, create a protected craft area, or take it outside, for you and your fur bud to make this project together.
Now, add a some non-toxic black acrylic paint to one of their paws and gently press it onto the pumpkin. If you didn't get it right on the first try, you could use a wet paper towel to wipe off the paint and try again.
The paint I used was kind of thick, but that seemed to help with the painting process. Thankfully it didn't dry super thick.

Repeat the process, adding more paint if necessary, and add another paw print to the pumpkin. Make sure to leave room to add a "B" in front.
Once you're done creating the paw prints, use a pet cleaning wipe to wipe the paint off your pet's paw. Since we were outside, I cleaned Hunter's paw with the hose.

I wanted the paw prints to be a bit more pronounced, so I painted over them to make them really stand out.

Give your fluffy Picasso a break. Then, use a paintbrush to paint a "B" in front of the paw prints. You could also use a stencil or draw the "B" on with a black marker.
Have a Cricut cutting machine? You could even cut a "B" out with black vinyl and add it to the pumpkin.

Allow the paint to dry. Then, display!
