Before I start my holiday baking, I usually make a few "just because" treats to get myself in the mood to tackle my list of cookies and candy.  Plus, these little extra goodies keep my husband (okay, okay, and myself) out of the cookie tins!

So when the grocery store recently had a big sale on baking ingredients and M&M's, I stocked up!  I bought a bunch of butter, extra eggs, cake mix, and a few varieties of holiday M&M's.

So to help kick off my big holiday baking session, I decided to make some easy M&M bars with yellow cake mix, milk chocolate holiday M&M's, and Christmas sprinkles.  They taste kind of like a big chocolate chip cookie bar, but with a moist and cakey texture and M&M's instead of chocolate chips!

Easy Holiday M&M Cake Mix Bars

These Easy Cake Mix Holiday M&M Bars are sweet, delicious, and only take five ingredients to make!  They'll definitely be a Santa-approved treat!  So you might want to leave one out for the big guy on Christmas Eve with a cold glass of milk!

First, we need to add a couple of eggs and melted butter to a mixing bowl.  If the butter is still warm from being melted, add it a gradually to the eggs.  Then, add the box of cake mix and mix just until combined.

Now we can fold in our mix-ins.  I used a combination of holiday milk chocolate M&M's and Christmas sprinkles.

Spoon the dough into a greased 9"x13" baking pan. I found it was easier to press it evenly into the pan with a rubber spatula than trying to spread it.  If desired, add more M&M's and sprinkles on top.

Bake the bars for 18-20 minutes in a 350 degree oven or until the edges are golden brown and the center is cooked through.  Allow the bars to cool completely, then cut into squares and serve!

Although I'm making these ahead of my actual Christmas cookies, these cake mix bars would look cute on holiday cookie trays!  Once the holiday season is over, swap out red and green M&M's and sprinkles for a rainbow mix!
