About a week ago, I started cleaning out our kitchen cabinets. I threw out expired herbs, seasonings, and medicine. I wiped down surfaces and then reorganized everything to the point where my husband would ask, "So is this where we're keeping the band-aids now?" Yes, dear.
Yesterday, I decided that I wasn't finished reorganizing our spice cabinet. I found a set of three plastic containers and sorted my herbs and spices in them for easier access. Now I can pull out the entire container instead of rummaging through each spice individually to find what I'm looking for.
During yesterday's reorganization, I came across my leftover supply of culinary grade lavender from our lavender filled wedding favors. I also had two bags of lemons in the fridge and a brand new bag of sugar I purchased earlier that morning. So I made a pitcher of lavender lemonade.
Lavender and lemon balance out each other really well. The tartness of the fresh lemons are subdued by the subtle touch of lavender combined with a sweet simple syrup. It's really refreshing!
Lavender Infused Lemonade
And since the hot days of summer still linger well into September, a nice glass of lavender lemonade can definitely help you chill out (mentally as well as physically)! This lemonade would also make a delicious refreshment for summer brunches or garden parties.
Prepare the lavender first. Add the lavender to a bowl and pour boiling water over it. Let the lavender steep for about 10 minutes. Your kitchen will start to smell fabulous while this is happening!
Strain the lavender from the water. Then, mix sugar into the lavender water and set aside.
Juice the lemons and add the juice to a pitcher or carafe. I used about 7 small lemons.
Add the lavender infused water to the lemon juice. At this point, the purple lavender water and yellow lemon juice will mix and turn a pretty pink.
Top the pitcher off with cold water and ice. Then, serve over ice and enjoy!
Lavender Infused Lemonade
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup dried culinary grade lavender
- 2 cups boiling water
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 7-8 lemons juiced
- 5 cups of cold water or more as needed
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Place lavender into a large bowl and pour boiling water over it.
- Allow the lavender steep for about 10 minutes. Then, strain the lavender and discard.
- Mix sugar into lavender-infused water. Pour the water mixture into pitcher filled with ice.
- Stir the lemon juice into the pitcher.
- Then, add the cold water into the pitcher and stir to combine.
- Add ice cubes to the pitcher, adjust the amount of water and sugar as needed, and serve.
I found that I didn't have to adjust the lemons or sugar after everything was combined. If it's too tart for your liking, add a bit more sugar. Then, pour your self a glass and enjoy this refreshing and relaxing beverage!
