It's grilling season, which means it's burger season, and we've been making lots of burgers!  In fact, we always end up making extra burgers to have the next day.  And when we serve our burgers, we always make sure to have all the right toppings - cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, and pickles.  Sometimes we'll throw crispy or pickled jalapeños on top, too!

The first night we make our burgers, I'll usually have one on a bun.  By the next day, I'm over the bun and just want a plate full of burger!  I've made Cheeseburger Salad before, but I really enjoy a good burger bowl.  It's kind of like a salad and a deconstructed burger - no bun necessary - and you can throw whatever you want on top of it.

I like to keep it pretty classic.  So if we had bacon cheeseburgers the night before, I'll throw some lettuce on a plate or in a bowl, add a cooked patty on top, and finish it off with whatever toppings I prepared (strips of bacon and the works).  It's really as easy as that!

Since I've been enjoying these burger bowls so much, I purposely ordered ingredients through Hungryroot to make a couple burger bowls during the week.  Not only does their produce arrive fresh, but their burger patties are made with grass-fed ground beef and the bacon is sugar-free.  Such a plus!

So if you're firing up the grill and making burgers for dinner, make sure to make extra for lunch the day next.  This bacon burger bowl is super satisfying and totally customizable.  Curious about how to sauce it?  I usually go with Thousand Island or a light drizzle of ketchup and mayo.

Two cheeseburgers sitting on the grill.

If you're making your burger fresh for this burger bowl, fire up the grill.  Season the burger patty with salt and pepper and place it on the grill over a medium flame. For a medium-rare cook, grill the burger for 3-4 minutes on each side.  Once the burger is just about done, add the slice of cheese and let it melt.  Then, remove the patty from the grill and set aside.

Grab a medium-sized bowl or plate and add lettuce.  Then, place the cheeseburger on top.  Now, we can add the rest of the toppings.  Crumble the bacon and add that on top along with the onion, tomato, avocado, and pickles.

Finish with a drizzle of Thousand Island dressing, or your favorite burger sauce, and serve.  If you really want to go big, serve this bowl with a side of sweet potato fries!

Have leftover ground beef?  You can use that in this bacon burger bowl instead of a patty. Then, instead of putting a slice of cheese on top, you can sprinkle shredded cheese over the bowl.
